<p>Weltmeisterschaften im Schach sind ein Höhepunkt für die Schachspieler- innen und Schachspieler weltweit. Sie lösen zudem ein sonst selten so ausgeprägtes Interesse der Medien aus.<br>

Das vom 25. November 2024 bis zum 12. Dezember 2024 zwischen dem amtierenden Weltmeister Ding Liren und dem indischen Herausforderer D. Gukesh ausgetragene Duell um die WM-Krone zog eine zusätzliche Aufmerksamkeit auf sich, weil es mit besonderen Vorzeichen aufwartete. So griff mit Gukesh der jüngste Herausforderer aller Zeiten nach dem Weltmeistertitel. In der langen Geschichte des Schachspiels war dies das erste Finale, in dem kein europäischer Spieler vertreten war und beide Kontrahenten aus Asien kamen.<br>
Der Titelkampf war davon geprägt, dass die Spieler versuchten, sich gegenseitig in seltene, ungewohnte Stellungen zu bringen wie auch theoretisches Neuland zu betreten. Manche Neuerung wird sicherlich in den kommenden Monaten und Jahren auf der Turnierbühne überprüft werden.<br>

Mit ihren Turnierplänen zeigten sie auch, wo das moderne Wettkampfschach steht, indem sie keine langen und von der Theorie herausgearbeiteten Varianten zu spielen versuchten, sondern neue Ideen verfolgten.<br>
Da Gukesh schon während der 14 vorgesehenen klassisch zu führenden Partien zum jüngsten Weltmeister aller Zeiten wurde, musste die Entscheidung nicht über den sonst zu erwartenden Tie-Break herbeigeführt werden.<br>
In diesem Buch werden alle Wettkampfpartien im Anschluss an eine kurze Vorstellung beider Akteure ausführlich analysiert und in ebenso unterhaltsamer wie verständlicher Form kommentiert. Zusätzlich richten unsere Autoren den Blick auf das eröffnungstheoretische Umfeld, in dem die Wettkampfpartien gespielte wurden, sowie auf die Beiträge der WM-Finalisten zur Entwicklung der Eröffnungstheorie in diesen Bereichen.</p>
